The Butterfly Tail is a native Chinese goldfish that was brought to Japan
in the early 1980s. It is not known how they came to exist. |
Features | The Butterfly Tail is very similar to the Telescope in appearance, however,
when they are viewed from top, the shape of the tail fin reminds us of
a butterfly. This is their most unique feature. Typically, they are categorized as a pop-eyed goldfish but sometimes the Butterfly Tail with normal eyes is imported. The Butterfly Tail with a panda-like pattern (black and white) is called the ‘Panda’ and those with a red and black pattern are called the ‘Lesser Panda’. |
Acquisition difficulties | Somewhat difficult. The Panda Butterfly Tail is popular among goldfish lovers but they are hard to acquire. |
Rearing difficulties | Normal. There is no particular difficulty in rearing. |
Details of the above photo | The Panda Butterfly Tail in the picture is the goldfish that received first prize in the one year old Butterfly Tail section. It has a typical panda pattern. |
Other | The Suzuki Fish Farm in Saitama Prefecture, famous for its Calico Oranda,
also produces wonderful Butterfly Tails. |
